Investigative Review: 17-Year-Old Makayla

Edmonton…The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate has completed an Investigative Review regarding a serious injury and is publicly releasing the results of the review as outlined under the Child and Youth Advocate Act.

In 2014, 17-year-old Makayla was hospitalized after a suicide attempt. At the time, she was the subject of a Permanent Guardianship Order. Makayla has recovered from the injuries related to her suicide attempt; however, she continues to struggle emotionally.
