Child and Youth Advocate releases first mandatory reviews into child deaths

Edmonton…The Office of the Child and Youth Advocate (OCYA) has released reviews into the circumstances of nine young people who passed away between April 1 and September 30, 2018. These are the first mandatory releases since Bill 18, the Child Protection and Accountability Act, was proclaimed in March 2018. This legislation expanded the mandate of the Child and Youth Advocate to publicly report on all deaths of young people identified by Child Intervention Services as children in need of intervention at the time of, or within two years of, their death.
